The Three Trimesters

Each trimester of your pregnancy has its own unique characteristics

First Trimester

Weeks 1 – 12

The most critical stage of pregnancy. Your baby develops from a single cell to a fully-formed human being. Morning sickness, fatigue, and heightened sensitivity to smells are common symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about pregnancy

How does the pregnancy calculator work?
The calculator uses Naegele's Rule — the medically accepted global standard: 280 days (40 weeks) are added to the first day of your last menstrual period to get the expected due date. This is the same method used by obstetricians worldwide.
Is the pregnancy calculator accurate?
The calculator is mathematically accurate per accepted medical standards. However, the due date is a statistical estimate — only 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. Most births occur between weeks 38 and 42. An ultrasound in the first trimester (weeks 8–12) is the most accurate way to confirm your due date.
How do I count pregnancy weeks?
Pregnancy weeks are always counted from the first day of your last menstrual period, not from the conception date. A full-term pregnancy is 40 weeks (280 days). For example, if your last period was 7 weeks ago, you are in week 7 of pregnancy.
When should I see a doctor to confirm my due date?
Book your first appointment as soon as you confirm you're pregnant. The first ultrasound is usually between weeks 8 and 12 and is the most accurate way to determine your expected due date. Our calculator is a guidance tool and does not replace regular medical follow-up.
Can I get pregnant before my period ends?
No — pregnancy occurs at ovulation when the egg is fertilized. In a 28-day cycle, ovulation typically occurs around day 14. Use the ovulation calculator to find your most fertile days.
